Elder Arsenie Papacioc is the latest Orthodox elder I have discovered, and what a man!
I found out about him thanks to this book: Eternity in the Moment.

It is a comprehensive biography, drawing from Elder Arsenie’s own words, the recollections of his spiritual children, and even records from the Romanian secret police.

He lived  from 1914-2011, a long life, despite the many years he spent in horrible conditions in prison. Where he actually experienced the grace of God is so profound ways, alongside his sacrifice.
Before that, as a young man, he was an athlete, an artist, a soldier, and a mayor. All experiences that were a source of profound spiritual understanding and helped him be closer to the faithful he met and counseled and confessed all along his life.

This man is so positive, so kind, and so luminous.

His emphasis on living in the present moment in the presence of God is really the type of message we so need today, when we are too often stuck in the past, or too anxious about tomorrow, whereas the only moment we have is now.

His life and message are also a great encouragement for those striving for a life in Christ through active engagement rather than mere intellectualizing.

There are recordings of him available. You can click on the cover to access a youtube playlist. The videos just last a  ew minutes, and they are all subtitled in English.

And here is an excerpt, page 108″:

MY VERDICT:
Elder Arsenie’s story urges us to embrace God’s presence in the now—a message of hope and action for today’s restless world.
