The Kingdom of God:
The Sermon on the Mount

I forgot to mention that the book is in four parts. In themselves, the titles of these parts are a good structure of the Sermon on the Mount:
- Proclamation of the Kingdom
- The Law and the Gospel
- The New Life in Christ
- The Path to Holiness
Notes from Chapter 8:
Essentially what He taught was that doing God’s will was not a simple matter of compliance with laws, but rather of obedience and love, of heartfelt conversion.

Notes from Chapter 9:
Their [the disciples] righteousness must be greater than that of the old teachers [scribes and pharisees] , many of whom no doubt complied with its requirements [of the law]. Now, however, it is not a question of that kind of observance, but of submission of the will to God, a complete conversion to Him and His way. Without this, it will be impossible to enter the Kingdom of Heaven.
