VERSE 51:
The proud have transgressed exceedingly,
but from Thy law have I not declined.

= I have not followed the examples of the proud who transgress Thy law.
Instead of transgressing, I have even been leading my life according to Thy law.
Only God’s law can squeeze out the juice of pride.
We can be easily tempted by the seeming success of the proud, here below. But these apparent successes are dreams, not reality. Not so when thy wake up!
So:
– remember the heavenly promises (v.49)
– don’t be depressed by sorrow. Hope (v.50)
– don’t imitate the proud, rather follow the Law (v.51)

VERSE 52:
I remembered Thy judgments of old,
O Lord, and was comforted.

This confirms verse 51, with examples from the Old Testament.
